We proudly support and sponsor Entry Level Apprentices! Build the life that you want and acquire the skills that are in demand. Avid wants to help you achieve your goals and set the groundwork as you work towards Red Seal Certification.
Level 1 – Apprentices start off with a solid understanding of how to work safely. You will be introduced to the tools that you will use on the job and develop project planning and blueprint reading skills. You will learn how to use ladders, scaffolds and automated lift equipment. You will also learn the basics of steel framework and drywall installation.
Level 2 – Apprentices develop their skills in the trade by learning how to install insulation, non-load metal framing, and gypsum wallboard. You will begin installing pressed steel frames, beads, mouldings, soundproofing, and fireproofing. You will also learn more advanced framing methods including suspended t-bar ceilings and bulkheads.
Level 3 – Apprentices further hone in their skills by learning how to install load-bearing and metal framing, acoustical ceilings, access floor systems, and demountable partitions. You will also learn to apply lath, wire and trims to walls and ceilings as well as apply exterior building envelope technologies while continuing to learn blueprint reading, building codes and specifications as you approach the Red Seal / Inter-Provincial Exam, which is written at the end of this level of training.
Each program is 9 weeks in duration and you would attend classes on either Friday/Saturday or Sunday/Monday depending on the school schedule. You must work the required number of field hours (hands-on experience) between each level.
